Förderantrag abgelehnt — was Sie jetzt tun können
Was Sie vermeiden sollten

A rejection is frustrating, but it is not always final. The decisive factor is the reason.
The Most Common Reasons for Rejection
Application submitted too late. The contract with the specialist contractor had already been signed. This is the most common mistake and, as a rule, cannot be remedied. Exception: you agreed on a suspensive condition — in that case the contract was not yet considered concluded.
Technical minimum requirements not met. For example, a U-value slightly above the threshold, or a heat generator not listed in the BAFA (Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control) register. It is worth checking: sometimes the implementation can be adjusted.
Incomplete documentation. The most harmless case. You will usually receive a request for additional documents rather than an outright rejection — respond within the deadline.
Funding pot exhausted. This occurs with state programmes; it is rare with the BEG (Federal Funding for Efficient Buildings).
Your Options
Objection — within one month of receipt of the decision, in writing. Worthwhile if the authority has incorrectly assessed the facts. Not worthwhile if you simply submitted too late.
New application — if the measure has not yet started and the deficiency can be remedied.
Tax reduction under § 35c EStG — the most important lifeline. 20 percent of costs spread over three years, up to a maximum of €40,000 per property. Requirements: owner-occupied residential property, more than ten years old, certificate from a specialist contractor. This option remains available even if the funding application was rejected — it simply cannot be combined with an approved grant.
What You Should Avoid
Do not simply continue building and hope for the best. If the rejection is based on a remediable deficiency, the point before construction begins is the last opportunity to salvage the situation.
Prevention Is Easier
Three things prevent most rejections: agree on a suspensive or resolutory condition in the contract before submitting the application, and check the technical parameters against the requirements in advance.
We assess from a funding perspective whether your project can still be salvaged — for example with a new application or via § 35c EStG. Whether an objection has merit should be evaluated by a qualified lawyer.
